HOW and WHY HORSES?
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and/or Learning is a partnership between a Mental Health Practitioner, Equine Specialist, Horses and Client/s.
The work takes place in an enclosed area where clients are introduced to horses. The horses act as a metaphor for the client/s life and beliefs, allowing client/s to share their stories in a safe, non-judgemental and accepting manner, the horses do not show prejudice.
The horses respond instantly to non-verbal language offering prompt feedback to the client/s, allowing for reflection of their emotional state, energy and behaviour. The approach is client/s led, ground based (no riding) and solution focused, clients will develop new ways of being in relationships with the horses and enable the skills to be developed further outside of therapy.
Just being around horses can have healing
benefits, horses rely mainly on development of mutual trust and respect
and skills such as curiosity, concentration and observation.

There is something about the outside of a horse this is good for the inside of a man
More Equine Assisted Psychotherapy offers something different from the normal counselling and pschotherapy. Some of which depending on your temperament can really come across as quite intense.
Horses do not have the ability to pre-judge you, be sensitive about what you say. They can detect your emotions and usually are honest with their reaction to you and never lie. Opportunities for powerful learning can often arise and as you become comfortable and happy in the situation you will change your perception of yourself and others.
The eye is the window to the soul.
Are you suffering from low self-esteem! Are you finding relationships and interaction difficult! Are you feeling anxious or depressed! If you can say yes to any of the above you may find Equine Assisted Psychotherapy on a bespoke programme successful.
